Trivia[]

  • Track 76, "Battle Against Ultimax, Who Has a Tank", was uploaded late on Tristan Alric's YouTube channel.
  • Some of Samira's song titles in-game differ from the titles in the official OST. According to Tristan, there were a wide variety of reasons, though it was mainly due to name length issues and prototype names.[4]
  • According to Tristan Alric, his favorite song in the OST is Track 64, "Termite Capitol".[5]
    • Track 24, "Oh No! WASPS!!" is his favorite track to compose.[6]
  • According to Tristan, Vi and Kabbu were supposed to have their own themes. Vi's would've used surf rock tunes, and Kabbu's would've started off as "goofy", before building up to be a more heroic and adventurous theme.[7] Both tracks were also supposed to have a sad remix. These were scrapped; the former due to none of the test samples sounding interesting enough, and the latter due to in-fighting during development.[8] The latter's theme still remains within the game's files.[9]
  • Songs within the OST have been cited to have numerous influences (mainly from Tristan's personal interests):
    • In a 2021 live stream for the game's physical release, Tristan has cited that most songs in the soundtrack were inspired by SNES Mario and Donkey Kong Country games, as well as Nathan McCree's work on the early Tomb Raider games.[10]
    • When the Golden Hills were announced, as well as a conversation between him and a fan, the guitars in Track 26, "Golden Lands" (erroneously called "Golden Hills" in the Discord screenshots) was said to have been inspired by the soundtrack to the mystery serial drama Twin Peaks.[11]
      • In a 2023 AMA, Tristan cites that Track 78, "The Giants' Lair", was inspired by composer David Lynch's discography as a whole.[12]
    • In a conversation between him and a fan, the baseline for Track 12, Snakemouth Den was cited to have been inspired by songs from the American rock band The Doors, mainly "Riders On The Storm".[11]
    • In a 2023 AMA, Track 57, "Swamps Where Dreams Drown", and other tracks were cited to have been taken influence from the film Star Wars, with Tristan stating for the former, he added a "low pedal tone [and] parallel chords moving over it", creating that "instant Star Wars [effect]".[12]
  • According to Tristan, he deliberately avoided playing Paper Mario, the game's main inspiration, in order to prevent his music from sounding too similar to that game.[13]
  • Track 83, "A Virtuoso's Tribute", is the only song in the game made with a live instrument.[14]
    • This track was originally placed in the Indiegogo demo when it was completed.[15]
  • According to Tristan, each song is formatted in this order: a "main" theme used in most tracks, then a piece to contrast the song from others, and finally a part to loop.[13]
  • According to Tristan, when he was hired by Genow, he allowed him to play pieces of the demo in order to get the feel of the location and see on what location's theme should sound like.[13]
    • Also, when Tristan submitted a track he liked but the team did not, he would try to convince them to add it.[13]
  • Two themes, named "Giant2" and "Giant3", appear within the game's files, but are left unused.[9]
  • According to Tristan, creating battle tracks was harder than making a boss track.[13]
  • According to Tristan, creating the leitmotif took a relatively short time.[16]
    • The theme initially started out as a battle track.[16]
