The Roaches are 'ancestors' of bugkind, being the first 'intelligent' bugs that lived in Bugaria since the Day of Awakening. Sometime before the events of the game, almost all of the Roaches disappeared from Bugaria. They left behind mysterious Ancient Artifacts that give hints towards The Everlasting Sapling's whereabouts. They were also responsible for the experiments that are found in Upper Snakemouth.
Later, it is revealed that some roaches have managed to survive, living in the Giant's Lair.
